National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)

According to the C.D.C. August is recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This is because all of the kids are going back to school and they want to remind parents to get your kids vaccinated. Let me start by saying that I am all for vaccines, safe vaccines...I don't understand why with all the medical advances we have at our disposal why can't we produce a safer vaccine for our most precious assets, our children.

When I had my first child my own pediatrician told me if I wanted to wait a few months before beginning the vaccination cycle that I would need to find a new Dr., I asked why would my baby be a threat to all of the already vaccinated children in the office? She had no answers for me. This same pediatrician couldn't even diagnose my son who had severe allergies from birth...her answer was that he was colicy and had sensitive skin! So I start looking for myself, I really wanted to wait until the dark circles under his eyes and full-body rash went away. Was this so unreasonable? I began searching the web for other opinions, and I didn't have to look very long to know that something just wasn't right.

The first book I ever read was written by a father (Neil Z. Miller)who started researching for himself and published his findings. His book titled Vaccines: are they really safe and effective: a parent's guide to childhood shots was almost unbelievable but he had the evidence to back up his claims...it was all right there in black and white in the pages before me.

The Choice

The FDA recently acknowledged that 90 percent of doctors do not report vaccine reactions. They are choosing to subvert this law by claiming the adverse event was, in their opinion, not related to the shot. In fact, every year between 12,000 and 14,000 reports of adverse reactions to vaccines are made to the FDA.

There has to be a better way...I myself am not quite sure what to do with this overload of information. But it is my job as a mother to be an advocated for my child, so lets come together as parents and push the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture vaccines to make them SAFE.
